An epic film follows the rise of a group of Jewish boys in New York City's world of organized crime between 1918 to1968, portraying them as street kids and ruthless men who are willing to die for each other. Interesting set designs of the…

A phenomenally long film, but one that was good enough to merit the time, and perhaps even to merit re-watchings, although at four hours long that's quite an investment. The music, acting, plots, and themes, were all great. The make up was…

Superb film by a top Director - Sergio Leone. If you like The Godfather you will like this.

Director Sergio Leone takes the same sense of epic mythology he once applied to his westerns and applies it to America’s Jazz Age in this convoluted 4-hour saga that combines grittier elements from "The Godfather" with gauzy childhood…

Possibly the worst movie ever made. Save yourself the four hours of your life that you'll never get back.

Brutal assassination's, and rape scenes. Too many flash backs and dark scenes. DeNiro and his hoods were ruthless killers. You get lots of blood and gore.

In the end pretty much all unsympathetic characters. Lots of violence. Lots of slow parts. Some very unbelievable parts.

A tale of haunting introspection, unremitting power and potent symbolism. "America" ruminates on the corrosive effects of greed, violence, objectification and pain, and forces us to face despicable acts of a stand-in for our nation's worst…

A little lengthy but still a very good (near) memorable Leone outing focusing on Jewish gangsters... Top-notch performances from De Niro, Woods, and entire supporting-cast!... A must see for Sergio Leone fans!...

it's funny how we have many Italian and Irish mafia films but hardly any Jewish mafia ones. this film, exceptionally well-done and well-acted, is the most quiet gangster film around.

Spaghetti western grand master Sergio Leone's last and longest movie is an entry in the 1970s-'80s cycle of grandiose gangster flicks. Very few, perhaps, will prefer it to Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather trilogy, and many--myself…

A mysterious, dream-state masterpiece. Outstanding casting, directing, and acting. The musical score is perfect. I love well-done films where the word "Intermission" comes up on the screen. I read that Sergio Leone first envisioned…

Dying to see...almost as much as that FUG movie by Jean-Pierre Melville.

A MASTERPIECE. Some may find it difficult to follow because the story is told in flashforwards and flashbacks. Others may be put off by violence, vulgar language and drug use. Well, it isn't "Heidi," I'll say that. If you didn't like "Pulp…

This is supposed to be a classic. It has not aged well. Long, slow, boring, bad dialogue, sappy music, the characters seemed more like caricatures than real people. The make up (for aging the characters) was poorly done and in the…

Director Sergio Leone's swan song, a saga of epic proportions, long-awaited. Traces the rise of Jewish gangsters in New York from boyhood to their sixties. Robert DeNiro, James Woods, Elizabeth McGovern, and Tuesday Weld push it to the…

This movie is weird .Not just the disjointedness, the 35 year gap, and returning to a boyhood memory. Too bad--the talents (Morricone, Leone) and a far too stretched out film. The actual plot could be done in less than an hour and still…

This was a very disappointing movie. Thought it would be good given the line up of actors. Starts out with blood and gore, vivid sex scenes and blantoned drug use. Didn't even make it through first half hour. Just not my type of movie.

I'm a huge De Niro fan, but skip this one. ...,A very long film that I had a hard time getting all the way through but somehow I managed. ...,Unlike my favorite De Niro films which I can watch over and over, I wouldn't recommend this…

Typically, I'm ambivalent about director's cuts. Sometimes, I'm downright hostile towards them. Good editors are hired for a reason. You can argue in favor of the artistic integrity of film directors if you want, but editors are also…
