Disappointed in this book. The illustrations are fabulous but clearly the concept is not written for a young child. If you are trying to raise your child with hope and positivity, pass this one up.

A humourous picture book featuring a penguin who lists all the things that aren't great about being a penguin. Eventually he meets a walrus who tries to get him to see the good things in life, with mixed results. Will definitely appeal to…

My 4 year old who is such a negative thinker most of the time REALLY loved this book. I'm not sure why he took to it so much, but he found it amusing, he found it relatable, and he did really like the walrus interrupting with his long pep…

Didactic king. I love penguins and I like other books Lane Smith has illustrated, so I thought I'd see what Jory John had to say. But the whole story was completely ruined for me when the walrus came on and gave his (typical JJ) didactic…

Book was decent. One of my kids liked it (3 year old) and the other did not (5 year old). I found penguin's complaining a bit excessive and didn't like the use of the word "dumb" in the book (I skipped over it while reading).

Good book for discussing perspective and appreciating what you have. Penguin has tons of problems. He lists them throughout the entire book. Some are really funny like when he complains that they all look alike and he can't even tell his…

I loved the simple illustrations more than I liked the message in this book.

While from an adult's standpoint this could be humorous, and to a child's understanding it can be pretty funny as well, but from an objective standpoint, what comes across louder than anything else is the constant complaining. Sure, a…

My brother read this one aloud to me and I just cried from laughing. Penguin is excellently ill tempered and Walrus gives him quite a speech. Normally I pause to ask questions and point out details in books I read aloud but I think in this…

Poor Penguin ... nothing is going right in his life. But face it, we all have those days.

Penguin is having a rough day. Nothing is right, and he is all too willing to tell us (the readers) all of his problems. As he is going along, listing how everything is bothering him a walrus kindly interrupts, and points out how the sun…

Penguin's grumpiness and negativity was hilariously over-the-top and I enjoyed Walrus's soliloquy (I read him aloud in a Walter-Cronkite-esque voice) on finding the positive in life. The illustrations are clean, soft and silly and…

A delightful treat to remind us that it is okay to have a bad day but to also look for the good. This would be a fun title to read aloud!
