Excellent. Connolly weaves his historical research into the story. You are being educated but it is so natural it does not detract from the flow of the story or the characters. As always, creepy, horrifying, scary. And a flawed hero with nefarious sidekicks that you can't help but root for.
The Black Angel is a story that might keep Stephen King awake at night. John Connolly's tale is relentlessly grim from beginning to end. Our hero Charlie Parker is haunted by his tragic past as he pursues those who seek to find and free the terrible the Black Angel. The story builds a dreadful momentum from New York City to Eastern Europe. Thank God for Charlie's two sidekicks, Louis and Angel. I would encourage you to read the previous Charlie Parker stories since there are frequent comments about his past.
I didn't care for the story. I didn't finish the book even. Just couldn't take it.
