Lost the Oscar for Special Effects to the Ten Commandments, a worthy winner. Louis and Bebe Barron got rooked out of an Oscar nom for their transcendent electronic score because they weren't music union members.

VERY GOOD 1956 sci-fi film. Did see it back in the day when it came out - not sure how much of it I would have understood as a young lad - fun to see again.

One of the best sci-fi classic movies from the early years. Well worth watching.

Great old sci-fi film. Most sci-fi from this era is just about unwatchable, but this one is very well done for the time period.

Long before Big Bertha and the myth of the Deep Bore Tunnel, there was the ultra-sophisticated underground tunnel network which went through the Forbidden Planet, and must have been a real gas to ride! Great SF flick from yesteryear.

This movie is amazingly good! The sfx and story are way ahead of it's time! I can see where Star Trek and so many other movies much later have had influences from this film. Some of the ideas like force fields, ray guns, communicators etc., are amazing! And then there's Robby the Robot! Shades of the robot from Lost in Space!
Very cool movie!

While the film has aged a bit culturally, it is still a great sci fi film. The future never looked so beautifully imagined. The meticulous craftsmanship that went into making this film is timeless. The plot is based on Shakepeare's tempest and each character in the Tempest has a counterpart in the film. Films and series like Star Wars, Star Trek, Lost in Space, etc all were inspired by definite and specific elements of the film.

Let's be honest, we love 1950's & 60's Sci-Fi movies because they're retro-kitsch. We can roll our eyes and laugh at the absurdity. Forbidden Planet is far different. It's so well done, you won't believe this was filmed in 1955. It's going to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Yes. Even 60 years after its initial release, Forbidden Planet still remains, today, one of the most ambitious and intelligent Sci-Fi films of all-time. (Well, sort of.... )

Set in the year 2200, Forbidden Planet's impressive visual-effects may be tame when compared by today's standards, but its story still remains quite interesting, though a bit on the slow-paced side.

It really killed me when the all-male, space-cruiser team from Earth first landed on planet Altair-4, and one of these dudes, taking a real good look at Robby, the robot, wondered out loud if this mechanical being was, in fact, male or female... Duh!.. I guess this boy (and his libido) had been cooped up with his macho-man comrades for far too long.

All-in-all, Forbidden Planet is a true gem-of-a-classic. (Watch video trailer)
