Add a CommentThis is a 1950 Western directed by Delmer Daves, loosely based on the historical figures.
It is one of the first major Westerns since the Second World War to portray the Indians sympathetically.
As usual, James Stewart plays a good guy---Tom Jeffords, an ex-Union captain, who helps set up a peace treaty in this classic western with an idealized love story.
Quite simply a great western! James Stewart at his best as a rugged individualist fighting to make things right with the Apache Indian tribe and their leader Cochise. Jeff Chandler plays Coshise and I was impressed how well he looked as an Indian Chief. Director Delmer Daves can be counted on for a great script and good location shooting. It is both a thrilling movie to watch and a beauty to behold the beautiful Southwest of the US!
Very well done movie I would recommend this movie for all to see. No fast forwarding on this one. A++ DVD
A film depicting a white man who tires of the killing between Indians and the white men. He meets with Cochise (Jeff Chandler) and eventually works out a treaty with one of the surrogates of the President. A good attempt to depict Indians as equal human beings.
