Cult horror/comedy craziness. Does not pretend to be anything else. It's great.

"Spider Baby" is a real treat from 1967. How did I never hear of it before finding it in my local city library? Black and white with impossible characters this is quite entertaining. Only a sick mind could come up with this stuff.

"Spiders don't eat spiders."
"Cannibal spiders do."
Subtitled: "The Maddest Story Ever Told."
A treat for those who like their horror cult, weird, and a bit grotesque. This family makes the Addams seem like the Waltons! Lon Chaney, jr. is the only name actor and there are a number of references to his most famous role, the Wolf Man. The less you know going in, the better. The Dissolve recently put this on their best indie horror films list. Directed by b-maven Jack Hill, who helped Pam Grier become a star in "Foxy Brown" and "Coffy" and directed a pair of women in prison movies (also with Grier) for Roger Corman. Fans of trash/cult cinema will recognize Sid Haig as the mentally challenged brother. This DVD is a director's cut with commentary and a making of featurette. Great opening credits.

I watched this movie not too long ago and was pleasantly surprised at just how much i really enjoyed it. It was quite creepy and had a small thread of fun in it. And dare i say this... but Sid Haig was a kinda sorta cutie in his younger years! Take that Captian Spaulding!
