When Albert comes home from work, he finds a note from his wife, Nancy, saying she has gone to see friends. Nancy has met Louis on the Internet and they comfort each other through email, pictures, and promises of perverse sexual encounters. Nancy has finally found the one thing that can liberate her from the pain in her life. While she pursues the freedom she feels will be her ultimate liberation, Albert is left behind to put the pieces together and try to salvage what is left.

Looking at the previous reviews, yeah perhaps it should be rated R. However I disagree that this is a sadomasochism snuff film. Nancy is a housewife to a man who cares more about his "man cave" than he does about his wife. She is completely alone in this world, gets no help from the psychotherapist she goes to and decides there's no use in living anymore. She cuts to feel alive, and finds a masochist on the internet who is willing to kill her. Unfortunately while they're working up to it, he falls in love with her and no longer wants to kill her. After the deed, he goes to meet hubby who has not bothered to call the police even though his wife has been gone for 5 days and left him a suicide note in an email. Personally I found it hit on so many levels. The feelings of being utterly alone even though you're married, the urge to cut to feel alive, the uselessness of the average psychologist, the urge to commit suicide because "it's never going to get any better." Very deep movie. Whether or not you want your children to see this, well that's up to you.

Can't understand why this isn't 'R' rated.

Skip It - Downloading Nancy (2008) 102 min. Difficult film to watch both for content and direction. The film follows Maria Bello’s character who hires a man on the net to help her commit suicide. Maria Bello’s performance does draw viewer empathy but some of the things she does is so far removed from anything someone else would do in that predicament (I imagine) that the empathy soon fades. This coupled with a flashback/real-time narration makes it difficult to follow the events in the film. Interesting idea with improper handling of the subject matter.

Practically a snuff film. Usually I’m the first to applaud kinkiness—but this DVD goes way past kinky into deeply disturbing realms of abusive sex, violence, & depravity. So much so, in fact, that for once I’m led to question OPL's judgment for letting it loose on public-library shelves where any kid or sicko can so easily grab hold of it.

Counsellor: It's possible that our thoughts create patterns or pathways in the brain, and after repeated negative thoughts those pathways become attached, addicted to that repeated specific stimulation and those negative feelings become very very difficult to redirect.

Nancy: Are you finished? That's such a load of crap, you have no idea what real pain is. No idea.
