Directed by Victor Fleming in 1939 adapted from Margaret Mitchell's 1936 novel of the same name, this American historical epic depicts the Scarlett O'Hara's romance set in the American South against the backdrop of the American Civil War and the Reconstruction era.
Although it seems overlong, it remains as one of the greatest films of all time.
As a history buff, I enjoyed it to the hilt.

I appreciate it cinematically, but it is a racist load of hogwash, like the book it was based on.

I was fortunate to see this epic on the big screen a few years ago on the west side of Indianapolis. When possible, it's nice to appreciate certain films in a darkened theater in the way they were intended.
This is one for the ages and part of our cultural history.

The book is a slog enlivened and sustained not by Scarlett O'Hara but by Rhett Butler whose presence is clarity and relief....... from Scarlett O'Hara! Thankfully the movie attains Scarlett's embodied survival as it's theme. (Huh?) She survives. That's what it's about. I think.

Must see! Every generation should read the book at least once and see the movie if they are so inclined. I've read the book 3 times myself and have a friend that's read it 35 times and counting!

I love this movie! Great casting and costuming. And great quotes too.

Yep. Fiddle-Dee-Dee. I fully agree with Me_Tarzan's comments about this 78-year-old clunker.

A classic when it comes to epic. Gorgeous costuming with great sets...love the actors in this one, especially Hattie McDaniel.

Personally, I found 1939's Gone With The Wind to be a big 4-hour bore. This film is far too over-rated for its own good. All the unfounded hype that this movie's received since its initial release has created the illusion that it's far superior to what it really is.

Adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name (written by Margaret Mitchell in 1936) - This novel promotes and applauds the ideals of slavery for blacks. It's a novel over-flowing with racial prejudices and bigotry, and the belief in the intellectual inferiority of Afro-Americans. It is over a thousand pages in length and, like the movie, it also is a big, fat bore.

Prissy: Mammy, here's Miss Scarlett's vittles.
Scarlett: You can take it all back to the kitchen; I won't eat a bite.
Mammy: Yes'm you is, you's gonna eat every mouthful of this.
Scarlett: No... I'm... NOT.
