This book has a lot of adventuring in it.

I absolutely LOVE Flanagans series.... but I have to be honest.
This book just didn't start off to a wow start for me. I strained through the first couple of chapter. It wasn't anything Flanagan did, it was just the deep emersion of military tactics that I had to bustle through.

At the beginning I wasn't too thrilled with the company on the campain this time. The first thought that went through my head when there was a knock at Alyss and the Rangers door was "I hope its not the princess. And low and behold there she was.... "I can't say that I'm thrilled the princess is back but it was inevitable. I can live with it. She's just so... arrogant and well, princessy.

"Will you two stop squabbling and squalling like a pair of self-centered brats?"- Halt

"May I remind you that this spilled self-centered brat is your Royal princess..."-Evanlyn

Have I mentioned how much I hate her? Did anyone one else want to hear Halt call her a Royal self-centered brat? Because I truely do. It explains her character perfectly.... The crying over bruised knuckles and everything."
She wants to act like she's different and can handle herself when in reality she acts like every other princess out there. Whiny little girl who stamps her feet and complains when she doesn't get what she wants.

But she throughout the book she seemed to grow, as Alyss did, during the book and it all ended up okay. I still can't stand her and her entitled behavior and mindset but she's a princess... what're ya going to do.

George was a nice little addition. We haven't seen much from people who aren't warriors of some sort.

"Why do you live this way? How can you bear it? This sort of thing is very, very painful. I always suspected that warriors are crazy. Now I know...." -George

We don't know much about George except for the fact that he's a lawyer and whiny.... But I have to agree with him.

But the thrive and lust for adventure out weighs the pain!

"When we camp we are out in the open. I accept that I have to sleep on the ground when I am in the forest. But this is a room and this is a floor. When I am indoors I prefer to sleep in a bed." -Halt

As for our beloved Halt and Will they are as wonderful as ever. Although I have to agree with Will that since Halt got married he has become increasingly fussy.

"How do you know which risks are the right ones?
.... You wait she see if you win."

I feel like this is an opropriate idea to take for coming so close to the end of the series.

Outstanding work by John Flanagan in the tenth instalment of the bestselling series 'Ranger's Apprentice'. I find that Flanagan is uniquely capable of painting a vivid picture in the reader's mind. I never thought reading about battle would be so interesting!

This is one of the best yet. I've reread the whole series like, 4 times except the Icebound Land. These books are the kind that even people who hate reading just HAVE to read it.

Gundar: Well, as my old mam used to say, if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, it's probably a duck.
Halt: Very wise. And what exactly do your mother's words of wisdom have to do with this situation?
Gundar: It looks like a channel. It's in the right place for a channel. If I were digging one, this is where I'd dig a channel. So…
Selethen: So it's probably the channel?
Gundar: Either that or it's a duck.
