This is a Shakespeare play I plan to re-read* many more times. It's complex: parts of it wring my sensibilities until I'm all wrung out. For Portia and her famous speech alone (The quality of mercy is not strain'd; It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven...) the play is worth 5 stars.
Above all, the themes of justice, revenge, and mercy are so crucial to being human, that The Merchant of Venice will always be relevant.
