This book is about growing up, coming of age, loneliness, love, family, the passing of time, art and life... all wrapped up in beautiful, subdued yet lavish, flowing, black & white linework. You need to read this!

Such a beautiful coming of age story told in graphic novel format. If you have never tried a graphic novel before, this is a great place to start.

This is a great coming-of-age graphic novel. Craig Thomspon chronicles his own experiences growing up, but mostly tells the story of his first love. He met Raina as a senior in high school and helped her while her parents were getting divorced. Craig also had his own journey of discovering his relationship with religion and what that would mean for his own plans after high school. He detailed what these experiences meant for his relationships with his family - from his own perspective and feelings. Very well done - definitely a good read.

A story of family, faith, love, and loss stuck in the middle of a deep Wisconsin winter. Good for fans of family drama TV shows.

The torment of this young man's journey is heavily peppered with biblical quotes and a deep sense of guilt about his own feelings. Too burdened with Christian polemics for me.

A touching and relatable story about first love. This was the first graphic novel I ever read and is still one of my favourites.

I have a weakness for stories like this, and Thompson's crisis of faith hit very close to home for my own life. Very moving, and the art is beautiful.

While this story is at times what appears to be a beautiful look at first love, I found it overwhelmingly sad. Between Craig's own crisis of faith, past dealing with abuse, and Raina's parents divorce and overall dysfunctional family I felt with such a bleak ending this graphic novel left much to be desired. I'm unsure what the final message was, beyond 'nothing lasts forever' which isn't exactly inspiring. However, it's still a compelling read that shouldn't take more than four hours.

This is one of the most beautiful, coming-of-age, first-love stories I have ever read. And the art is incredible. It's a great story about conflict of faith and religion and being an adult. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

Don't be discouraged by the size of this graphic novel. It's a pleasant and surprisingly quick read, beautifully illustrated and filled with a lot of heart.
