David Innes (one of Burroughs' lesser known characters) accompanies his inventor friend Abner Perry on a journey inside a large boring machine which leads them to the inner world of Pellucidar, inhabited by prehistoric creatures and primitive tribes of humans and lit by a "sun" that never sets. This is a fun read, although youths in the era of video games might find it a slow slog. This is the first of seven adventures (the others are Pellucidar, Tanar of Pellucidar, Tarzan at the Earth's Core, Back to the Stone Age, Land of Terror and Savage Pellucidar.)
