I wasn’t quite as into this one as I was with Intercepted [which, to be fair to Fumbled, was QUITE A LOT]; the love interest was a harder sell for me and for very understandable narrative reasons, the relationship between them took a bit long to get going. That being said, I still liked it a lot! Poppy was a delightful and compelling protagonist, and Martin’s sense of humor is absolutely wonderful. She’s also excellent at filling out her protagonist’s lives with tender and supportive friendships.

This was one of those books that teetered between a 3 and 4 star rating for me. The story is very cute, and there were certain aspects that I thought were worthy of note, but there were also a few places it fell short for me.

The main character, Poppy, was great and I loved how down to earth she was. However, I personally did not think that there was enough build up leading to her rekindled romance with TK.

I also don’t think that the author ever really provided an explanation as to how TK missed out on the news regarding Poppy’s pregnancy. It is implied that this was a machination of his meddling mother, but it was not explained how she got to his text messages before he did. And who was the girl that answered his phone? I suppose we may never know.

This is actually the second book in a series, and I like how the author incorporated characters and storylines from her first book into this one. From early on, it seemed pretty obvious that her next book will focus on a romance between two supporting characters, Maxwell and Brynn, and I think that will be fun.

It should also be noted that the author spent 8 years as an NFL wife, so I assume that her depiction of what life is like for the wives and girlfriends of players is pretty accurate.

There were a lot of pleasant surprises in this book that forced me to rethink some of my preconceived notions about romance novels and character development over and over. It was an engaging read, that I couldn't put down.

I loved Alexa's first novel so I was really excited to read this one and it did not disappoint! It has hot football players....even hotter wives/girlfriends/baby mothers/friends with benefits....catty behavior....standing in your greatness....Black Girl Magic...and my friend PimaLib_JessicaP recommends it....what more could you want?

I don't often read second-chance romances, but this one fell into my lap and delighted me all over the place! Poppy, a single mother working as a waitress in Denver, not only runs into an old flame...she spills a tray full of drinks all over him. And then, like an adult, runs away. Having let him break her heart while they were teenagers, she's not going to let him get to her now that they're grown—especially since, as a professional football player, he has enough power to do almost anything. Including take her kid away from her, if she can build up the courage to tell him. When the news does come out, TK doesn't take it very well, but some personal soul searching on both sides leads to something that could be great.

This is one of those romances that not only has you rooting for the pair as a couple, but for each individual, with their own problems and their own needs. Whether it's about independence, truth, health issues, or relationships, Alexa Martin is great at walking complex people through complex situations. And of course, there's a guaranteed happily ever after.
