Add a CommentSuch a great comfortable book, the perfect kind to read in the dreary winter to cheer up your day! I’ve already read this book at least four times, and I’m still looking forward to reading it again. The perfect family, the perfect book, the perfect story.
The series is a fantastic series for any lover of realistic fiction and some mild hi-jinks and adventure. You will fall in love with the four Penderwick sisters.
this such a good book just like all the others in the series
When the four Penderwick sisters find themselves on the beautiful Arundel estate for their summer vacation, they are excited to explore the sprawling grounds. Jeffrey, the owner's son, is the perfect partner for their adventures. However, Jeffrey's mother is not very fond of the girls, and lots of trouble ensues. Growing up, some of Birdsall's favorite books were Little Women and The Secret Garden, and she wrote the award winning Penderwicks in the same spirit.
Four sisters on vacation with their absent-minded, widowed father, experience friendship, and maybe even a taste of First Love.
Utterly charming. If you’re looking for a book that captures the adventures of Pippi Longstocking and the delightfulness of Anne of Green Gables, look no farther! The Penderwicks is an enjoyable caper from start to finish. Each of the four sisters has distinct personalities. You’ll want to hang out with Jane, Batty Rosalind and Skye; they feel so real! Plus their bravery and gumption will have you cheering from your couch (or favorite reading spot). Highly recommended for a family read aloud or any kid in search of a perfect summer read!
OK, some of you are probably looking through the reviews right now, not knowing anything about this book. Although it might not be really popular like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or Fablehaven, etc, but that doesn't mean this isn't an AWESOME book. Personally, this first book is my favorite out of the series. It's a hilarious, exciting, and touching read. This is a special book which I think may not fit all reader styles, but it definitely matched mine!! :)
I love this book. Normally I'm not the type to read a "girl book", but this is so much more than that. It's absolutely real and true and funny and vibrant. All of the characters are great. (I've never been able to decide if Jane or Skye is my favorite of the sisters.) Sadly, the fourth book in the series goes downhill and changes too much because of the leap forward in time, but the second and third books are really good.
A cute little book that reminds me of the old Bobbsy Twins series and other family-adventure books. (And a bit of Beverly Cleary's Ramona and Beezus.) But updated to appeal to the middle school (and middle age) reader of the 21st century. There's not a lot of action, no big adventure, but the book doesn't suffer for that. It's enjoyable enough to meet the girls and learn about them, their gentle father, and the other characters.
I like that, although each of the sisters fits a trope or stereotype, there's more to them than that trope - Skye is a tomboy, but she's also really good at math; Jane is the head-in-the-clouds dreamer, but she is really good (better than Skye) at soccer.
A sweet beginning to what should be a fun series.
I love this book so much-especially since I'm like Jane. This book is so good I found myself saying,"Look,Jane, isn't this sentence I'm writing for my story funny?"Ireccomend it for anyplace, any time, any one.
