Add a CommentThe Penderwicks is a story about 4 sisters and their summer adventures. They are a fun and happy group that makes Jeffrey, the boy next door, what to come and join them in climbing trees and playing in the great outdoors. Something his mother does not approve of. The story is recommended for grades 3-8 but I feel that they are adults that would also enjoy this book.
The first in a series of four tales, The Penderwicks is a delightful story that follows four sisters, an interesting boy, two rabbits, and a trusty old dog during their summer vacation. The girls and their widowed father rent a cozy cottage located on the beautiful Arundel estate owned by Mrs. Tifton. The girls befriend Jeffrey, the son of Mrs. Tifton, and what follows is a story filled with mild hijinks, friendship, sisterhood, and exploration. The story is filled with old-fashioned charm and is infused with believable and endearing characters. This sweet tale is a perfect story for those searching out a modern book that reads like a classic.

this book was amazing and I got so attached to it, that I am going to read the whole siries
Wonderful book to read for all ages!:)
Reminiscent of Little Women, but with the misadventures of Anne of Green Gables, the Penderwicks are a loveable set of sisters. The story has an old fashioned feel set in more modern times.
I read this with my son (12 years old) and our neighbor (11 year old girl) as part of our summer book club. We really loved it! My son is a lot like Jeffrey (an only child who loves music) and our neighbor is the oldest of 4 children, like the Penderwicks! Each chapter left us wanting to read more. At the end, they were very eager to give it 5 stars and shouted, "It was the best book ever!"

Such a great comfortable book, the perfect kind to read in the dreary winter to cheer up your day! Iโve already read this book at least four times, and Iโm still looking forward to reading it again. The perfect family, the perfect book, the perfect story.
The series is a fantastic series for any lover of realistic fiction and some mild hi-jinks and adventure. You will fall in love with the four Penderwick sisters.
