"He was a chubby, bottom-heavy guy who looked like a turnip that some bored wizard had tapped with a magic wand and turned into a fifty-five-year-old bureaucrat."
"You'd do that for me?" "You're my daughter, aren't you?" Kate smiled. Sure, he'd missed a lot of Chistmases and birthdays during her childhood, but not many fathers could be counted on to mount a prison break.
"I'll keep that in mind. What's the dress code tonight?"
"Missouri black tie," Nick said. "No shirt, no shoes, no service."
FBI Special Agent Kate O'Hare follows in the footsteps of her dad putting her military background to use for the good of her country. For the last five years she had doggedly pursued Nick Fox, a sexy international crook and con man who takes delight in her fierce attention and leaves Toblerones on her pillow.
His capture and her celebration are short-lived when Nick escapes custody and Kate is pulled from the case. Kate is furious. She locates Nick on the Greek island of Athos, which has forbidden any female presence for the past thousand years. With the aid of her father Kate takes a 'vacation', masquerades as a male, and parachutes under the cover of night to seek her target.
She finds Nick hiding in a centuries old stone and earthen hut built in the mouth of a cave in the company of two men; Agent in Charge Carl Jessup, her boss and Fletcher Bolton, deputy director of the FBI. In the clandestine meeting, Nick has agreed to work off the grid for the FBI. His job is to con one of the bigger cons and return over five hundred million dollars to the US. Her job is to make sure he does.

Add a CommentI am not the ideal audience for this book, but I had to read it for my Readers’ Advisory class. And I could not stand it.
A quick read. This has adventure and fun characters. This is the first book in a series.
Gotta love a tale about a great con (remember the Paul Neuman/Robert Redford movie The Sting?).
"The Heist" is full of memorable characters and interesting situations. What a fun read. I got the feeling that Evanovich and Goldberg enjoyed writing it as much as I did reading it.
What a fun read: well written with engaging characters and plenty of action.
A by-the-books female FBI agent and a marvelously outrageous bad boy crook.

Simple but funny. Was a pleasure to read. Eager to read the next one in the series.
Love the series! Lots of fun with quirky characters and plot twists. Don't miss it!
This book is fun to try and decide which author worked on which part. Evanovich has a really distinctive voice, but when it comes to men… well she’d rather undress them than get inside their heads, so that’s where Goldberg comes in. This book was really fun. Sexy without any sex scenes. Full of action and surprises. The plot twist is right near the beginning of the book, but it’s worth it. Such a fun story to read. Can’t wait until I get the second in the series from the waiting list at the library!
An easy, fun read. A very good start for her new series. Looking forward to the next one - "The Chase"
A great book and more exciting than the usual Janet Evanovich book's. Looking forward to more.
Nice story!!! Can't wait for the next one!!!
