Characters: 7/10
Plot: 8/10
Writing: 8/10
The book's message (we need emotion to be human, life has more meaning, etc.) did make some of it feel a little cheesy because it was so obvious, but I still enjoyed the plot. There were some unpredictable twists that literally made me stop and process for several minutes. Most of the characters were fairly flat, but that was partially just because of the world that they were fitting into. I enjoyed it enough that I would read the sequel.

Great book. A little slow at the beginning but pay close attention still. After that it has lots of twists in the plot making the reader think to think ahead to see what the end of the book will be like. It also lightly touches on some big life issues, but still makes the reader think for themselves.

The story is set in an underground society that is controlled by "The Ten", a handful of scientists that are genetically engineering humans to emotionless. It was emotion-filled humans that destroyed the world by nuclear war decades ago. Thalli is born with curiosity and emotions which make her an anomaly. Anomalies are annihilated by The Ten to "protect" the underground society. Thalli hears about someone called the Designer as she is waiting to be annihilated. Maybe her anomalies are not bad, but part of something bigger than her.

"Fans of James Dashner's Maze Runner will love Krista McGee's Anomaly." Jon Lewis, author of the C.H.O.A.S. trilogy.

This book was alright. There wasn't much action throughout the book and I'm not sure I'll be completing the series tbh.
