"While enjoying the Winter Festival holiday at his adopted daughter's home in the Alban Hills, Marcus Corvinus discovers that a local politician, Quintus Caesius, has been discovered beaten to death at the rear entrance of the town brothel. There are several suspects with reason to bear Caesius a grudge. But who would hate him enough to kill him? It appears merlinsilver didn't read the same book I did. The language was decidedly not rough and the "F" word was only used in one chapter by a boozy character in a wine shop and under circumstances where such use might be expected. The "every other page" claim is a gross exaggeration and misrepresentation. Nor was fingerprint technology used. The author did use fairly modern idiom, but not inconsistent with a "sleuth" of whatever period. Perhaps merlinsilver would have preferred the book to have been written in latin? Not a great book but entertaining enough of its kind.

I did NOT like this book. Staged in AD39 outside of Rome. Language was rough using the F*** word on every other page. Using modern slang every third page (calling people Pal, savoir-faire, etc.), using fingerprint technology. NOT a series that I would follow.
