This is my idea of a guilty pleasure. A regency romance that spins around a London season and the quest of finding a suitable husband for Fredrica's younger sister. I got completely sucked in by the dialogue which is just wonderful.

Another hit by Georgette Heyer. Frederica is a wonderfully witty and entertaining novel of regency romance with endearing characters. While her novels follow a similar pattern in dandies falling for the most unlikely heroines, I love the way Frederica and her siblings turn the Marquis' self-absorbed world on its ear. Their "scrapes" and "accidents" never fail to make me giggle. This is definitely a favorite for me by an author I am so happy to have discovered.

I love Frederica! The heroine is so believable, which is nice because it seems she's often the most beautiful creature who's ever existed. Frederica isn't the most beautiful creature who's ever existed, but she's spunky, clever, kind, witty, and determined.

While I can't stand Nora Roberts--what a poor writer!--I love all Regency books by Mrs. Heyer. Frederica is one of my favorites. If you like Jane Austen you will love Georgette Heyer. Her sense of humor is priceless and her characters are endearing.

Georgette Heyer is officially well on her way to becoming one of my favourite authors. This book was an absolute delight from start to finish. Frederica is a bright and competent heroine with an amusing set of siblings and Alverstoke is a bit of a rake with a heart of gold. The two of them banter their way through the entire novel and every time they share the page, it's thoroughly enjoyable. Filled with rich historical detail, the plot clips along and never fails to entertain. Simply a fun book to read.

I enjoyed this almost as much as The Grand Sophy, which remains my favourite.

I loved this book. The endearing, intelligent Frederica is a great heroine. And I very much liked the rapport between her and Alverstoke. I'm always sad and a little dissapointed when they end... I want more!

Frederica is my favorite of all Mrs. Heyer's Regency books. Heyer has a smooth narrative style and her funny scenes are hillarious. Frederica's younger brother has some really funny moments in this narration. If you like Jane Austen, you will LOVE Georgette Heyer. Certainly a book to read more than once.

Georgette Heyer was surely the ultimate Jane Austen fan. By the time of her death in 1974 she had written over fifty books, most set in Regency England and featuring smart, genteel young women falling in love. Heyer was less interested in social commentary than Austen, but she sure loved the society. Her historical detail is impeccable, but if what you love most about Jane Austen is the delightful characters and sparkling romance, then Heyer is the author for you. Frederica is a good introduction to her work. The title character is a capable young woman who?at the age of 24?is too busy running her household of precocious younger siblings to be concerned with her own romantic fate. That just might change when Frederica entrusts her charming family to the care of the snobbish Lord Alverstroke.
