As per most of the comments here, very similar setting to "The Stand". Facing a post-apocalyptic wasteland, all the travelers (surviving ones, that is) meet up with their own motives. Basically a nuclear warfare answer to Stephen King's biological one (Captain Tripps). I much prefer Randall Flagg to "Friend" as the main villain in the respective books, as there was quite a bit more development behind the former. The rest of the characters, however, are pretty much on par.

Definitely similar to "The Stand". But very well written. I really enjoyed this book. And it got me to read more McCammon.

I love this book it is one of my absolute favorites. Alot of people compare it to The Stand but I find it's more descriptive and captivating.

If you liked "The Stand" by Stephen King, you more than likely will enjoy this book.

Think Stephen King's The Stand with more violence.
