"Maybe they won't notice if I don't say anything..." - it's less trouble, definitely! And while it's funny, I get the feeling it's a sad kind of humour, in that there are certainly times we (speaking as an adult and a recent child graduate, although maybe not entirely the latter) discount entirely what children (or even adults) say when we should be listening. A fun story about - what else? - the shrinking of Treehorn, who later figures out how to fix the issue himself... right after which he notices he's turning green.

A little boy is shrinking, and his parents and teachers are too preoccupied with their own problems to notice. Illustrations by the late, great Edward Gorey.
