I was so surprised that I actually liked this. I was afraid to read it because it has such an awful cover, honestly, the only real reason that I picked it up is because it's famous and stuff.

I actually really very much liked this book, which is a bit of a surprise, at least it was to me. I never would have dreamed I'd like this kind of novel, because usually I enjoy funny books and find serious books like this a bit too intense for me, but surprisingly I managed to read the entire thing in a single sitting, the length of which was approximately four hours, which is not that long really.

There were a couple of things that I disliked, that is, besides the covor. For instance, I thought it was rather silly the way she mixed in little red riding hood, as in, it wasn't very well done.

The blurb is a bit decieving, it says that Jinx wandered off the path and found the wizard, but is worried about his trustfulness etc. Which isn't really what happened, in the book his stepfather drags him off of the path and then the wizard rescues him from trolls. Which was very disconcerting, I thought.

Jinx (and the series as a whole) is brilliant! It's such an interesting and unique concept, with well-rounded and realistic characters that you can't help but love, and a world that draws you right in.
I first read this book while still in elementary school, and I loved it - the rest of the series hadn't come out yet, and I didn't realize that there would be more books. Several years later I rediscovered it and read it again, and I loved it just as much - if not more - the second time! I was delighted to find that there was a second, and third, book. Overall, an awesome read!

But after Simon performs a spell, Jinx loses his capacity as an emotional seer. Setting out into the forest to look for a counterspell, Jinx joins company with a girl and a boy, both of whom are suffering under their own curses.
