This historical mystery for children is a good book for lots of kids who will grow up to be fans of Downton Abbey, given that it's set in an English manor in the 1910s. While the mystery at the heart of this novel isn't terribly gripping, it's appropriate for the target audience, and it's refreshing to find a chapter book written for a relatively low reading level that manages to keep an adult reasonably entertained. The period details will also entertain kids who haven't encountered much historical fiction, and serve as a good introduction to the time period and class issues of the time. This was nothing revolutionary, but it was still fun.
