We agree with some of the other comments, this was one of Denzel's best movies. Not for the faint of hart, filled with action, knives, guns, and plenty of blood. We love it when the bad guys getting what they deserve. If you are a person who loves chick flicks and Hallmark movies you may find this movie too intense. Ending is crazy good, which is a quote from my 71 year old wife.

The EQUALIZER is the best Denzel Washington movie ever - but a caution on the necessary violence his character undertakes to avenge female victims of the Russian Mob. I would give this movie ****** for the riveting plot and creative violence his character takes to avenge the Russian Mob's brutal hold on the women they pimp out.

A fascinating final scene in a Home Depot like business will captivate you.

I highly recommend this action thriller but would not recommend that young children or teens view this violence necessary to quell the evil he uncovers.

Kind of like Jason Borne, Taken, and Rambo all wrapped up into one . . . except not as believable or exciting. Having said that, there is one scene in the movie that made it worth watching. Washington goes to the country residence of a woman of great consequence who provides him with an intelligence briefing. The scene ends with a short exchange between them, which is followed by a short exchange between her and her husband. That scene is a memory maker. I have found it on YouTube, saved it, and I will watch it from time to time.

One man against the Russian mob. Unbelievable? Not if it's the guy who has everything on King Kong.
Perfect.

I like Denzel Washington, but this movie really lacks a decent story. I can see the agent in hiding thing, working a normal job, normal life, but is really closed plot. The counting thing during fight scene, was pretty lame. Too bad the story wasn't better written, it would and could have been a better movie as result.

Not as STYLIZED as the John Wicke movies but Denzel is a humble, low-key man forced into being what he once was....a stone cold assassin killer but also possessing compassion, wisdom and personality. A good action "killing machine" ride movie. RATED R.

"Bob" explains Moby Dick to Teri:
Teri: He ever catch it?
Bob: Hm?
Teri: The fish.
Bob: Oh, yeah. Yes. Yeah, he did.
Teri: It's a happy ending.
Bob: Well, not exactly. Old man tied the fish to the side of the boat. Had to row back to shore. Fish bled in the water. Sharks came and ate the whole fish till there was nothing left.
Teri: That's just kind of a waste, isn't it?
Bob: Depends upon how you look at it. The old man met his adversary when he thought that part of his life was over. He saw himself in the fish. Came to...Came to respect it the more it fought.
Teri: Why didn't he just let the fish go?
Bob: The old man's gotta be the old man. Fish gotta be the fish. Gotta be who you are
in this world, right? No matter what.
