As a dark force engulfs the land, the fate of Erdas has fallen on the shoulders of four young strangers who each have forged a rare bond with their spirit beasts. Four children separated by vast distances all undergo the same ritual, watched by cloaked strangers. Four flashes of light erupt, and from them emerge the unmistakable shapes of incredible beasts - a wolf, a leopard, a panda, a falcon. Suddenly the paths of these children - and the world - have been changed forever. Enter the world of Erdas, where every child who comes of age must discover if they have a spirit animal, a rare bond between human and beast that bestows great powers to both. A dark force has risen from distant and long-forgotten lands, and has begun an onslaught that will ravage the world. Now the fate of Erdas has fallen on the shoulders of four young strangers . . . and on you.

As a child, I loved the book series and read every single one. I cannot really review this as well I should at the moment because it's been years since I read the book. However I do know that you will enjoy this series a lot if you fall between the ages of 10 and 12.

I had read The lost Kingdoms before I read this. I understand one of the complaints is that it's 'boring'. I can understand that. This book is more of an introduction to Erdas and to the Characters. The set up for the rest of the books, the stage. Considering the books are based off of a game this wouldn't leave Brandon a lot of wiggle room and he did well under the circumstances. Personally I really enjoyed the book, ((All the male writers wrote really well in this series lol))
This isn't one of Brandons 'best' per say but looking at a lot of the others it's definitely not the worst

I love the concept and how this book was written. It is very cool how each book in the series changes authors.

This is one of the first children's books that I've ever read that doesn't have the old school happy ending. It's a great book if you're into fantasy, too!

Started reading this book for one reason....I saw Marie Lu had written one of the books. Honestly I was snoring....the plot was predictable at best and little character development. I will however read the rest of the series thanks to Lu. Hopefully I won't nod off in the next book. .....Meanwhile time for Ted Dekker and Showdown. BTW Dekker vs Mull we all know who would win that write off.
