The level of detail about the wine regions of France and their history is phenomenal...unfortunately, that's about all these books have going for them. These are labeled as the "Winemaker's Detective" novels, but there's precious little detecting going on. A crime gets committed, and the reader follows Benjamin Cooker through his exquisitely tasteful life until, by happy coincidence, he stumbles onto the solution of the mystery.
