Add a CommentGreat book. For more fun ask your little ones (or big ones) to read for assigned characters. The pattern of the bugs' language eventually decodes itself from context. We will be revisiting this book.
This is one that is definitely best read aloud. The colorful pictures tell an engaging story that comes through loud and clear, even if all the text is in bug language.
Fun and creative! Definitely read this one aloud and see where your imagination takes you.
This Caldecott winner was not my favorite, but it is very original in its use of creating another language to tell the story.
This is a cleverly-written book that appeals to a variety of ages. I read it out loud to the family, and it incited lots of giggling. I read it out loud to a middle-grade student that I am tutoring, and we talked about using context clues to deduce the meanings of unfamiliar words (the book made this conversation fun). The illustrations are enchanting, and I noticed new details each time I re-read the book.
The illustrations are delightful and younger children will likely have fun puzzling out the insect language.

I read with our 4 year old son and we got a laugh when we were sure we had worked out what words meant and I think my son enjoyed being a part of insects conversations.
Great for imagination, explaining the use of different languages and how communication varies even between animals. Something a little different from a wordless book.
