7️⃣ A remake of John Sturges' Magnificent Seven, only without the magnificence. I'm surprised we don't have ManMochine and his sock puppets NeoNose and BabaPtooey here to foist their junior high opinions on you.

A western story about a little town standing up to bullies. My take away ... when science creates a destructive weapon, it should be international law that a counter weapon be created at the same time to disable the destructive weapon when it's in evil hands (ie. The devil's breath.) .... I'd like to see a fictional movie depicting what the holocaust victims could have done to stop Nazis sooner. What could a group of nice people do to defeat a group of bad people back in that time period ... without Magneto haha.

I’m not a western fan, but I love the original. I like this one, too. Denzel’s character’s darker back-story add some important gray to the moral black & white of the original. I do miss the straight-up soundtrack, but understand why those changes were made. I felt like this version was entertaining with a strong cast (Vincent D’Onofrio is stunning here: ‘wait, that guy said what??’), but, on the whole, Yul and Steve were just cooler (even though they hated working together). You should watch both.

Just awful. Remakes are so rarely any good. Not even Denzel Washington could make this watchable. Everything wrong here - the wrong cast, the wrong look. Everything overdone.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua as a remake of the 1960 film of the same name, this American action-packed western depicts the struggle of the seven men to save the town after it falls under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue.
With the smartly crafted script and fine performances of the major actors, this fast-paced drama turns out an enjoyable ride from the beggining to the end.

I am not a fan of Hollywood's cheesy resurrection of old classic movies in an age of sleazy trash reality shows polluting minds and the airwaves, but this western was well done despite, once again, a black actor changes the original lead role. Maybe the next Spider-Man should be a Chinese lead actor, Iron Man done by an Arab. Come on guys, stick to the script and this has nothing to do with intolerance. Should we make a movie about Jesus Christ and give it to a Mexican actor, get my drift? How about El Chapo (should be hung from a tree) played by a Jewish actor, makes sense to you?

If you're a person who likes really bad remakes, that should never have been actually produced; this is one of the movies you would watch.

Not generally a Western person, but watched as a recommendation and nice intro to the genre, being a modern remake of a classic. I tend to align very soundly with what I checked up on Rotten Tomatoes on this one: I think they gave this like a 63%. That percentile suggests this is a decent flick, chances are pretty watchable and not terrible, but also not a beauty of a film or a homerun. Seems to me it could have been awesome, but it was a solid bit shy of the mark. But still plenty of fun moments and a decent story. I like the many religious tones with the preacher, Vincent D'Onofrio's big ol' character, etc. too. I think what is also a lasting contribution is just the weight of the film's portrayal of a fairly timeless motif of just our home, or are security, being threatened; the raw emotion of this, how to deal with it, a sense of justice, togetherness, the human spirit, etc. which came together sort of nicely in the end and the "final stand" and battle that are the climax of this Magnificent tale.

A cartoon version of the 1960s film with lots of adolescent violence and CGI. But without the great music

Given that the original was a remake of a Kurosawa film, I'm not sure this needed to be remade again. While the original is remembered fondly for its iconic score and great cast (McQueen, Yul Brynner, Bronson, James Coburn), it's actually a bit pokey and uneven. The new version is more action-orientated and the final shoot out is good, if predictable. The one nice thing about it is that it adds some color to what is a notoriously white genre (Discounting the Native characters who are almost always faceless bad guys.). Denzel heads the gang, which also includes an Asian character, a Native American character, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio (my favorite), and Chris Pratt, whose laid back dude vibe doesn't really fit. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, who also did "Training Day" and "The Equalizer" with Denzel.
