No sooner had I gone on about 'A Seat At The Table' when I remembered this one. Donald Glover's best without a doubt!

I slept on this album for an absurdly long time.

This is one of the absolute most perfect homages to classic 1960s/70s Funkadelic I've ever heard. The keyboard work isn't quite as legendary as Bernie Worrell, but it's still good. Bernie's shoes are kinda hard to fill, after all.

Love this so much and my wife and I have only heard maybe the first five songs! We plan to buy the record.

If Donald Glover is the voice of my generation, I'll gladly blare it from a megaphone.

This album was straight soul-fire. Songs like Boogieman, Zombies, and Standing Tall feed your soul with meaningful lyrics. Songs like Riot, The Night Me and Your Mama Met are good for your mind with classic beats and timeless bass lines. Best album in 2016 carried over into 2017.

Awaken My Love by Childish Gambino is a very peaceful and soothing album to listen to. This album came out in 2016 and I recently started listening to Childish Gambino, and I wasn't disappointed. I really enjoyed the song Boogieman. This album is almost like a combination of soul and r&b which I really liked. Donald Glover always knows how to entertain his fans, and I think that all of his records are amazing. I even bought the vinyl! Some other songs on Awaken My Love that I listen to all the time are: Me and Your Mama, Baby Boy, California, and Zombies! I definitely encourage people to listen to Childish Gambino. I rate this album a good 4/5. @Montgomery of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

“Awaken, My Love!” is one of the greatest pieces of work that Childish Gambino has ever created in his career. Although it is not a rap album, his transition to soul, funk, and R&B shows that he has range. He can do rap, but he can also do other genres too. Each song on his album is amazing, but the best is Redbone. Even though the album was released in 2016, Redbone is still a hit song. The second single from the album is one of the top songs of 2017 so far. It feels like Donald Glover went back to the 1970s, recorded this album, and came back to release it. I am excited for what he will do next, because he keeps getting better and better!

This album is a big jump from previous works but WHEW, Childish Gambino has put together some amazing tracks that melt in to one another. Equal parts Prince and Zapp & Roger, this "black light funk" has come in a time of need. And so has Gambino as a transformative talent. After a year like 2016, one where music icons like the aforementioned Prince and David Bowie have been lost to the beyond, Donald Glover has rescued and reassured us that game changing talent is alive and well. From college student(NYU) to comedy TV writer(30 Rock) to TV comedy star (Community) to Hip-Hop/rapper(Childish Gambino) to Drama/Comedy Show creator(Atlanta), that compares to Aziz Ansari's Master of None and Louis CK's Louie, to this entry of funk/soul to potentially becoming a mega movie star when his take on Lando appears in the upcoming Star Wars Han Solo movie.

I mean, is this guy the new cool? A self-confident nerd that is willing to risk it every time something new attracts his interest. A potential successor to Prince? A literal successor to Billy Dee Williams? That sounds pretty cool to me. Someone get this man a Colt 45.

Too late
You wanna make it right, but now it's too late
My peanut butter chocolate cake with Kool-Aid
I'm trying not to waste my time

If you want it, oh
You can have it, you can have it
If you need it
You better believe in something
We can make it
If you want it
You can have it, aah!
