A brilliantly plotted, relentlessly surprising science-fiction thriller from the author of the bestselling Wayward Pines trilogy-"Are you happy with your life?" Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious. Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits. Before a man Jason's never met smiles down at him and says, "Welcome back, my friend." In this world he's woken up to, Jason's life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor, but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible. Is it this world or the other that's the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could've imagined--one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe. Dark Matter is a brilliantly plotted tale that is at once sweeping and intimate, mind-bendingly strange and profoundly human--a relentlessly surprising science-fiction thriller about choices, paths not taken, and how far we'll go to claim the lives we dream of.From the Hardcover edition.

I've read the Wayward Pines trilogy by this author, and the first half of Dark Matter feels like a regurgitation of that story/plot. Very similar characters, motives, twists, etc. Even the main character's family size and age-range are the same.
The second half of the book was more diverse, but there were still some things I had problems with (overused cliches like "Do you know the definition of insanity?", expected responses, etc.). Overall, I enjoyed the idea behind the story, but feel it could have been better executed.

The quantum theory multiverse aspect of the story is attractive but I didn't find the characters or story to be very compelling. I started reading the book but it didn't sustain my interest so I set it aside. Later, I finished listening to the audiobook. It was OK for passing time in the car but it dragged on and got a bit boring at the end. I was happy to finish it and move on.

Disappointed. Guess I was hoping for something similar to his story line of Good Behavior on TNT or whatever channel it's found.

This was a great choice for an audiobook - very captivating and fast-paced. A good storyline that kept me guessing until the entire time. To the people who comment on holes in multiverse theory: it's called fiction for a reason! It's supposed to be fun!

This is a totally engrossing, action-packed, suspenseful book that keeps the listener on edge until the very end. Loved it!
