I've waited ages to get my hands on a copy of this film. It didn't disappoint. This quirky flick plays with Western tropes in a tale about how food and love (and food made with love) bring us together.

The main story is a creative spoof of samurai movies but the other stuff is silly and sometimes gross. Rather than fast forward through the annoying bits, I decided to turn it off.

So happy the library is getting this forgotten masterpiece. An existential and amusing take on love, death, sex, and how they intertwine with food. This film was very hard to get, even when I tried to stock it at a dvd rental store I worked at in mid-ought's, because the director committed suicide. This is highly shunned in Japan, making the film virtually non-existent. (It is now widely believed to have been murder, by a very powerful cartel that the director was exposing in his last production.) But luckily for us in Omaha, this film will not die. It must be seen!

Offbeat, eccentric, and utterly charming Japanese movie about, among other things, ramen, sex, friendship, and eating. It's pointless to write a description, as you should just see it without knowing much about it. It's been dubbed a "ramen western," as it uses some tropes of the genre, albeit in a contemporary, comic setting. This is the deluxe Criterion re-release. Directed by Juzu Itami. Don't watch this on an empty stomach!

Excellent choice. A fun, light hearted enjoyable movie. Saw it a few years ago and really liked it.

This is a fantastic movie. I hope SPL considers restocking it.

This is such a great, funny movie! I wish the Seattle Library had this to check out...
