"Let's get realthe English language is bizarre. A might be for apple, but it's also for aisle and aeons. Why does the word "gnat" start with a G but the word "knot" doesn't start with an N? It doesn't always make sense, but don't let these rule-breaking silent letters defeat you! This whimsical, funky book from Raj Haldar (aka rapper Lushlife) turns the traditional idea of an alphabet book on its head, poking fun at the most mischievous words in the English language and demonstrating how to pronounce them. Fun and informative for word nerds of all ages!" -- Amazon.com

I, my 9-year-old daughter, and my husband (whose first language isn't English) all shared a chuckle over this work highlighting some of the goofier aspects of English pronunciation.

Silent letters can be mischievous! (Note: there's a glossary in the back to help you out with pronouncing them.)

Any alphabet book that includes the word gnocchi gets a thumbs up from me!

If EWE are a person who loves words and puns and YOU want to confuse young readers, then look in the book AISLE, for this book. OUI, OUI!

I love using this in an A-B-C story time. Paired with a classic ABC book, P is for Pterodactyl perfect!

Some of the words are really hard, so practice a few times before diving in. The guide in the back is a life saver (especially for a Dyslexic such as myself). If you want to use this in a teaching setting, ask kids and caregivers words they know that don't follow the usual language rule.

Kids and caregivers who love puns and wordplay will enjoy this book that focuses on those pesky rebels of the alphabet: silent letters.
