Some things are pretty much taken for granted. If the viewer does not like musicals, take a pass on "Rocketman." If the viewer likes bio-pics that present facts as opposed to "dress up theatre" then take a pass on "Rocketman." Otherwise, having lived in England when Elton John (along with many others) exploded into the abyss left by the Beatles, "Rocketman" provides something of a nostalgia fix.

cpl: yes, the performance (by Taron Egerton) was terribly UNDERRATED.

Terrible underated performance and mediocre film

great costumes, but that is about it

It was good but was for sure not what we were expecting. We were expecting more of a straight biography sort of the way the Johnny Cash bio was done in Ring of Fire. Had to fast forward through a couple of spots but the language while a bit coarse at times was no worse than most movies. Bad parents can really mess up a child's life.

Great Musical! Taron Edgerton kills it as Elton John.

It started off pretty slow and was difficult to get over that the musical was what was going through John's mind. After that was accomplished it made the movie more tolerable. However, the movie did progress where it started to become entertaining and made the musical better. The movie is the story of Elton's John life through Elton John's own perception of what went on. How much is truth and how much is his own interpretation nobody would know. Because it was only through Elton's own eyes you have to take the story with a large grain of salt. If it was not for the music I would have never got to the half way point. This is the music from the 70's and it brought back memories.

I don't usually watch musicals, but this actually was well done to see how the songs pertained to his life at the time it was written. I didn't realize he had such a hard life.

Fantasy musical covering the life of Elton John. No small dramatic moments that go on for any length of time to draw you into the story or into the characters. Just all flash and bang and over the top melodrama. Would probably make a good stage musical (probably the final intention as well) but doesn’t really work for me as a movie that way.

I enjoyed this movie very much. I always liked Elton John, however I was not a die hard fan. The lead actor is superb and Elton John's music and Bernie Taupin's lyrics are give excellent treatment. Its the story about an extraordinarily talented person who painfully struggled for years to develop the self love that he was missing in his early years.

Streets Of Laredo lyrics duet by Taron Egerton & Jamie Bell

As I walked out in the streets of Laredo
As I walked out in Laredo one day
I saw a young cowboy, wrapped all in white linen
Wrapped in white linen, as cold as the clay
Oh, beat the drum slowly and play the fife lowly
Sing the Death March as you carry me along
Take me to the valley, there lay the sod o'er me
I'm a young cowboy, I know I've done wrong
I see by your outfit that you are a cowboy
These words he did say as I boldly walked by
Come sit down beside me and hear my sad story
Got shot in the breast and I know I must die
Go fetch me some water, a cool cup of water
To cool my parched lips, then the poor cowboy said
Before I returned, his spirit had left him
Had gone to his Maker, the cowboy was dead
Oh, beat the drum slowly and play the fife lowly
Sing the Death March as you carry me along
Take me to the valley, there lay the sod o'er me
I'm a young cowboy, I know I've done wrong

26 quotes in IMDb already, thank you! The most moving ones are those between Elton and Bernie:

Bernie Taupin: I love you, man. I do, but... not in that way.
Elton John: Thank you, Bernie.
Bernie Taupin: You're my brother.
Elton John: Bernie. I never told you how much I need you.
Bernie Taupin: No, no, no. I love you, man. Always have, always will. You write songs that millions of people love. And that's what's important. You just need to remember who you are, and be okay with it.
