I suggest you read the 1-3 books in the series so you are up to speed with the characters. Kaladin Stormblessed is experiencing PTSD and ends up exploring other ways to live his life, with more fraught encounters with his surgeon father. Navani Kholin comes into her own as a scientist and researcher, not so much as a queen. Shallan's multiple personalities are interesting to follow. The end is worth the time reading this book--and then you wait must for the next probably weighty tome to be published.

In Rhythm of War, Sanderson reunites his readers with a wide cast of well-rounded characters, notably exploring the inner lives of its antagonists. His worldbuilding continues to delight; even die-hard fans will discover new depths to Roshar and its hard magic system. While lagging in the middle acts, the novel’s intense tone--paired with its direct, action-packed style--propels readers forward until its electrifying final act. A thoughtful meditation on war and its negative effects on society and the mental health of everyone involved, this is no simple story of good versus evil. The book’s length may repel some readers, but those who persevere will be rewarded with some of the most cathartic scenes in contemporary fantasy.

Read this in audio format. It's just too long to read before the library due date!. As with all of Sanderson's books, there was rarely a dull moment in the whole thing and I quickly became happily immersed in the familiar world of the cosmere. Enemies lie within and without. Kaladin battles throughout with depression as well as the enemy. Shallan and her multiple personalities struggle to both forget and remember her traumatic past while Atalin, whom I am beginning to like a lot, struggles to prove himself in the land of the honor spren. I hope there is a 5th installment and that it doesn't take 3 or more years to come out because there are several unresolved issues. Personally I would be happy if this series never ended!

I literally cannot wait for this book to release

I haven't read this book yet because it is not out. But I know that the previous books of the stormlight archive were enthralling and captivating. I can't wait to see how this ties into the rest of the cosmere. We are all waiting for November 17th, 2020 for the best read of your lifetime.

" 'If he kills us,' Tien said, 'he's simply dropped us off at a place we were going anyway. We shouldn't hasten it, and it is sad. But see, he can't take our moments, our Connection, Kaladin. And those are things that really matter.' "

" 'You told me it would get worse.' 'It will,' Wit said, 'but then it will get better. Then it will get worse again. Then better. This is life, and I will not lie by saying every day will be sunshine. But there will be sunshine again, and that is a very different thing to say. That is truth. I promise you, Kaladin: You will be warm again.'"
