"Long before the First Order, before the Empire, before even The Phantom Menace . . . Jedi lit the way for the galaxy in The High Republic. It is a golden age. Intrepid hyperspace scouts expand the reach of the Republic to the furthest stars, worlds flourish under the benevolent leadership of the Senate, and peace reigns, enforced by the wisdom and strength of the renowned order of Force users known as the Jedi. With the Jedi at the height of their power, the free citizens of the galaxy are confident in their ability to weather any storm. But the even brightest light can cast a shadow, and some storms defy any preparation. When a shocking catastrophe in hyperspace tears a ship to pieces, the flurry of shrapnel emerging from the disaster threatens an entire system. No sooner does the call for help go out than the Jedi race to the scene. The scope of the emergence, however, is enough to push even Jedi to their limit. As the sky breaks open and destruction rains down upon the peaceful alliance they helped to build, the Jedi must trust in the Force to see them through a day in which a single mistake could cost billions of lives. Even as the Jedi battle valiantly against calamity, something truly deadly grows beyond the boundary of the Republic. The hyperspace disaster is far more sinister than the Jedi could ever suspect. A threat hides in the darkness, far from the light of the age, and harbors a secret that could strike fear into even a Jedi's heart" -- Amazon.com.

I gave this book 5 stars even tho it's a solid 4 only because someone gave it 1.5 star and that is some utter ridiculousness, so I'm bring balance to the Force.

Disclaimer: I am a life-long Star Wars fan. I love the movies and shows, and grew up playing with the toys and dreaming of new stories beyond the films. You’d think I’d be a sucker for a good Star Wars book, and you’d be right. The problem is, I still haven’t found one. Ok, maybe that’s a bit harsh, as I do recall enjoying Zahn’s Thrawn Trilogy many years ago. But since the dawning of the new Disney area of Star Wars, I’ve found the novels to be boring and dull. Sadly, Light of the Jedi is no different.

What could have made this a better book? I’m glad you asked… A main protagonist would really help. Even two or three main protagonists would be a vast improvement. Rather, we suffered through a rotating cast of half-baked jedi characters that only served to move the plot along. In the end, the book felt like a simple exercise in bringing the narrative from point A to point B in order to set up the story for the next book in the series (a process which, presumably, will then be repeated in the next book). Everything else about this book is serviceable, but nothing more. Just to be clear, I love Star Wars and I love books, sadly, Light of the Jedi is a terrible example of both.

The start of a new era of Star Wars lore. With an explosive beginning and an ending that will leave you wanting more. A different look at the Star Wars universe featuring only a few character we already know. The lack of Skywalkers is kind of refreshing as well. The audio is great is a great way to read this book as it has all the regular features of a Star Wars audio book including music and sound effects.
