While European Commission bureaucrats plan to feature Auschwitz at the 50th anniversary of the EC foundation, David de Vriend hears a murder shot from the Atlas Hotel in Brussels and a pig runs loose around Sainte-Catherine Place. The lives of these descendants from the world wars connect with the murder and the pig, in an epic, profound and banal. I couldn’t put it down.
