There's nothing sweeter and more pleasurable than the Storytelling of Alice Hoffman. She is brilliantly deft at weaving a tale, which educates, entertains, and enlivens the reader. As a lover of the series, this prequel provided the background and so much more that I had speculated about over the years. The story arc provided myriad unanticipated turns, including a Dutch Island, and an unconventional pirate. If you haven't fallen in love with the Owens' Women yet, this is a perfect opportunity to jump in before Book Four is published.
