Concrete Rose is a very well written and heartfelt book. This book is the prequel to the ground breaking The Hate You Give. Also the protagonist of this story is the father, Big Mav, of Star. This book starts of with our main character Maverick Carter playing around with his gang, the King Lords. Being the son of former leader, Li'l Don, he feels that the King Lord is all he has. But after the shocking discovery that he’s a father, his life is distorted beyond recognition. To top it off, with the lost of a love one, Maverick is forced to make even more unwanted decisions. With the life he knew fading way, Maverick will have to create his own path to a new future. As always, this was a stellar read. I was captivated by their every word, which made it hard to stop. This was a fantastic book that delves deep into heartache, grief, adulthood, and responsibility. I really enjoyed how the characters from The Hate You Give, were littered in throughout. This can be heavy at times, but regardless its a book that is spectacular in every aspect. 4/5 stars - Maade, SAPL Read It & Review Contributor
