Benton's books always focus on interrelationships, which I enjoy. This particular family and its closest friends are an interesting mix of "proper" Southern behaviour and individuals who think outside that box. They bounce off each other in not-so-great ways until a crisis in weather and relationships brings out the best, loving aspects of them. They have lives I can't really see living myself, but I do enjoy reading about them.
