Halle Berry came across a story of a Southern African-American woman who overcame dissociative identity disorder, an extremely rare mental disorder who, after help from a psychiatrist, went to college and became a college professor. Previous films exploring this illness are The Three Faces of Eve and Sybil. Berry co-produced this indie because she was fascinated with the idea of playing a person with three different personalities that would come and go when needed. This film’s release was delayed by several years, perhaps because of the great difficulty of exploring this complicated illness in a 101 minute film.
