While I do agree that this film could do more with its fascinating subjects, I don't think it's an "epic fail" (Let us forever banish that phrase.) or the "stupidest movie ever." Who writes these things? Crystal Moselle's documentary is about the six Angulo brothers, who were raised in almost total isolation from the outside world by their strange, perhaps mentally ill, Peruvian father. They connect with the outside world through watching movies and then recreating them (Batman, "Reservoir Dogs," "Halloween"). You can't make this stuff up. Philosophy majors will perhaps see some connections to the Allegory of the Cave. As the movie progresses, the brothers start to yearn for freedom and go outside more on their own. It could use more structure and the filming is basic bordering on amateur, but the brothers and their story is so unusual that the film still succeeds. Would love to see a follow up to this.
