This has some interesting elements to it - the concept of talking to animals, to the wind, as well as the main theme of the princess, out of her element, forced to live as a commoner, a lowly goose girl, and thereby learn Important Lessons about Not Judging Books By Their Cover and about Being Thankful For What You Have. I also liked the intrigue of the plot to kill the princess and replace her with her serving girl. I wasn't a huge fan of the romance, but it's a YA fantasy novel, so it's kind of expected. Overall, while this was a decent story, it didn't grab me like other, similar YA fantasy novels have done. It was just okay, in my opinion.
