Join the Library as we share positive notes with our friends and neighbors during this open house letter-writing event! Stop by the Central Library anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Feb. 18 - we'll provide postcards at letter-writing areas in Helzberg Auditorium (5th Floor), along with a photo station where you can snap a selfie with your letter. Postcards and letters will be collected and delivered to local immigrant families through Jewish Vocational Service. There will also be activities for children and families in our Children's Library (2nd Floor); we'll have coloring sheets available, and two special themed story times at 10 a.m. and noon. Share your experience and post to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram using the hashtag #toimmigrantswithlove. RSVPs are requested so we can anticipate the number of attendees; to RSVP or get more details, email Hannah Johnson at hannahjohnson@kclibrary.org. Show less

To do something.” In a story reminiscent of Saving Private Ryan, Friscolanti travelled to war-torn Beirut to find and interview Amal Alkhalaf, the single-mother and her three children, dubbed “family no. 417.” Show less

We found people falling in love, kids mad at their parents for dragging them to Europe, women doing their laundry in a baseball stadium locker room, and hundreds of people living at a gas station—sitting next to the pumps, smoking. Also: wild pigs. 57,000 refugees are stuck in Greece, making homes in some surprising locations. We hear what that’s really like. Show less
