I am ambivalent about this book. In the beginning I felt I liked it and then I wondered where it was going. When it came to the present I was thoroughly confused. Finally when the past and present were tied together I got engrossed in the…Read moreRead more of this comment

Immediately got totally absorbed in this book and then came part two and it started to fall apart. But it picked up the pace again. A couple of spots near the end again I lost my interest but had come so far that I knew I'd finish it. …Read moreRead more of this comment

This one took me awhile to get into as I wasn't as interested in the "past" as I was in the "present" - probably the opposite of most people, but that's how it was for me. The last 1/3 of the book flew by though and I ended up enjoying it!

With some books you get a character driven novel, others the plot. I find with Moyes they compliment each other to bring a rich story to the reader. My third book by her: Ship of Brides, Me Before You and this title. Loved all three.

A mystery whose details I did not see coming; a history I was unaware of -- WW I had Nazi occupation that was brutal and "resistant camps" -- and a story of a painting and the many homes in which it hung. This was a very satisfying book.
